Summary

An individual who acquires or provides an AED will not be held legally responsible for its use or attempted use. They can be held legally responsible if acting with extreme carelessness. This legal protection does not apply to AED manufacturers.

(b) A person who acquires or provides an automated external defibrillator device for use on a victim of a perceived medical emergency is not liable for civil damages resulting from the use or attempted use of the device. This subsection does not apply to civil damages resulting from gross negligence. (c) The immunity provided by (b) of this section does not apply to a manufacturer of an automated external defibrillator.
