Liability: Emergency Medical Examiner or Coroner
When a public health emergency declaration is in effect, an emergency appointed medical examiner or coroner who provides aid will not be held legally responsible for the medical care given. They can be held legally responsible if acting with extreme carelessness.
Licensing and Appointment of Health Personnel
(3) Any emergency assistant medical examiner or coroner appointed pursuant to this Section and acting without malice and within the scope of the prescribed duties shall be immune from civil liability in the performance of such duties.
