Summary Title

Workers' Benefits: Public Employee Leave

Summary

A public employee, who is a disaster service volunteer of the American Red Cross, is entitled to leave with regular pay and without loss to seniority, pay vacation time, sick leave, or earned overtime accumulation to participate in disaster relief operations upon request of American Red Cross and approval of the employing agency. This is limited to 15 work days in a 12 month period either consecutively or nonconsecutively .

A. A public employee who is a disaster service volunteer may be granted leave from his regular work assignment, with pay, for a period not to exceed fifteen work days in any twelve-month period to participate in specialized disaster relief services for the American Red Cross when requesting such leave and upon approval of the employing agency, as provided in this Part. B. Any public employee who is granted disaster service leave shall not forfeit any seniority, pay, vacation time, sick leave, or earned overtime accumulation as a result of his participation in the Disaster Service Leave Program.
