Summary Title

Retired Volunteer License: Medical Assistant

Summary

A medical assistant-certified, a medical assistant-hemodialysis technician, or a medical assistant-phlebotomist can obtain a volunteer medical worker license by having a license that was active at least 10 years prior, submitting an application, and providing proof of current registration as a volunteer emergency worker with a local organization. The retired volunteer medical worker license allows practitioners to practice in emergency circumstances such as earthquakes, floods, when war has been declared, or states of emergency; the medical assistant-certified, a medical assistant-hemodialysis technician, or a medical assistant-phlebotomist can also practice in non-emergent circumstances, such as training exercises, when activated by their respective local organization.

A medical assistant-certified, a medical assistant-hemodialysis technician, or a medical assistant-phlebotomist may obtain an initial retired volunteer medical worker credential as described in chapter 246-12 WAC, Part 12. To change a retired volunteer medical assistant credential to active status the person must follow the requirements of WAC 246-12-450.
