Liability: Volunteer during Public Health Emergency
When a public health emergency declaration is in effect, an individual who, voluntarily, provides assistance to the State Health Officer will not be held legally responsible for acting or failing to act. They can be held legally responsible if acting with extreme carelessness or intent to cause harm. They are entitled to workers' compensation if injured or killed while providing assistance.
Public health advisories; public health emergencies; isolation and quarantines
(2) Individuals who assist the State Health Officer at his or her request on a volunteer basis during a public health emergency are entitled to the benefits specified in s. 110.504(2), (3), (4), and (5).
